The fourth class municipality of Tukuran is located at the eastern section of Zamboanga del Sur with a land area of 144.91 square kilometers. It is seated about 23 kilometers east of province’s capital Pagadian City and about 801 kilometers south-south-east of Manila. Its boundaries reach up to Lanao del Norte on the east, Illana Bay on the south, the municipality of Labangan in the west, and the municipality of Aurora in the North. Classified as partly urban, the municipality consists of 25 barangays with a population of 37,883 (as of 2010). The topography is a mixed terrain ranging from level ground to undulating hills, to steep mountains. Tukuran is primarily an agricultural municipality with rice and corn as its major farm products. It also has a thriving fishport, with an estimated nine kilometer coastline that covers eight barangays. The major fishing grounds are Illana Bay, Sibuguey Bay, Moro Gulf, and Celebes Sea.
