1.    Does ZFF sponsor medical missions and give drug donations?

The Zuellig Family Foundation does not engage in medical missions and drug donations because the Foundation believes that a systemic approach is needed to achieve meaningful improvements in the coutry’s health indicators. ZFF’s strategies involve strengthening the capabilities of the country’s public healthcare system and improving  access to healthcare for the poor, especially in rural areas.


2.    How is ZFF related to the Zuellig Group?

In 2008, the Board of Trustees of ZFF decided to recast the Foundation’s strategies and reposition its institutional identity to respond more effectively to the challenges of the Philippine health sector. This marked the autonomy of ZFF from the business operations of the Zuellig Group. While the subsidiaries and affiliates of the Zuellig Group continue to pursue their respective Corporate Social Responsibility programs, ZFF concentrates its efforts and resources on the specific philanthropic mission articulated by the Zuellig family: to promote effective and sustainable healthcare systems in the Philippines, with an emphasis on primary healthcare services in rural communities.


3.    What are the criteria for the selection of municipalities to join the  ZFF Community Health Partnership Program?

The municipalities that are considered for the Community Health Partnership Program must meet the following citeria:

  • With high maternal and child mortality rates, cases of infectious diseases, and high child malnutrition rates;

  • Commitment of Local Chief Executive to participate in the program and provide community health development equity above and beyond those funds already committed in the regular LGU budget;

  • Past experience in Partnerships for Community Health;

  • Presence of accredited NGOs, community organizations and basic health infrastructure;

  • Preference are given to fourth class municipalities;

  • Willingness of the municipal council to participate in the implementation of the program.

 

4.    How can I join the trainings?

  1. ... Health Leaders for the Poor- To be able to qualify for the HLP Training Program, you must be a member of the tri-leaders of the partner municipalities chosen by the Foundation. 

  2. ... Health Leaders and Managers for the Poor: Leaders for Equitable Health - Participants of the Leaders for Equitable Health Training Program are Provincial Health Officers, DOH-Representatives, Center for Health Development Representatives, and District Hospital Chiefs of the different cohort municipalities of ZFF as well as possible expansion areas upon the invitation of the Foundation.

  3. ... Health Youth Leaders Congress - Participants of the HYLC are chosen from pre-selected Colleges and Universities all over the Philippines. The schools are asked by ZFF to submit five (5) names of student leaders which are later on screened by the Foundation based on submitted credentials. 

  4. ... Community Health for Corporations - The CHC course is offered to corporations interested in implementing sustainable community health programs as well as improving their existing health programs. Participants accepted are mainly from recommendations of key stakeholders as well as those who apply and pass the criteria for the course. 

  5. ... Mayor-Doctors Convention - MDC Participants are mainly Mayor-Doctors who are on their first or second terms and are interested in coming up with a health agenda for action. Interested parties can apply for the program. 

  6. ... Provincial Leaders for Health - Governors of the cohort municipalities of the Foundation as well as possible expansion areas, upon the invitation of the Foundation, are eligible to participate in Provincial Leaders for Health program.

 

5.    Does ZFF fund individual requests?

ZFF is not a grant-making foundation. However, there is a small grants program made available to Zuellig fellows.

 

6.    Why is ZFF focused on health matters?

The Zuellig Group and the Zuellig family have long-standing interests in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industryy. When the Zuellig Group established the Pharmaceutical Health and Family Foundation in Canlubang Laguna, the Foundation initially aimed to address the health requirements of local communities in the neighborhood.  The recasting of the Foundation’s priorities and approaches affirmed the need to address health inequities in the Philippines and to improve health conditions among our people, especially the poor.

 

7.    How is ZFF funded?

The Foundation is funded by the Zuellig family and from other donations.
