The Research and Policy Studies Program allows stakeholders to assess health inequities and design appropriate responses. By conducting focused group and round table discussions on national and local health issues, the Foundation hopes to facilitate greater understanding of health policies that are aimed at influencing legislative and executive action, both at the local and national levels.
As a respected and credible health advocate, the Foundation provides valuable advice to legislative bodies and government agencies, as well as to private sector organizations, on pressing health issues. Aside from advocacies relevant to the Health Sector Reform Agenda, such as access to essential drugs by making quality but affordable generics available to the majority of the population, the Foundation also spearheads forums on evolving national health concerns, such as the Influenza A/H1N1 pandemic.
At the local level, the Institute works with and enhances the capability of Local Health Boards to become responsive and effective partners by providing a policy environment that is conducive to the implementation of health reforms and the delivery of relevant health programs and services. In addition, these initiatives ultimately benefit health action partnerships by assisting local government units to make health systems more equitable.
Proceedings and outputs of research and policy studies are documented and disseminated through institutional publications such as the annual Health Worker Journal. On the heels of the Foundation’s well-received publication, “Dilemmas and Choices”, plans are also underway to publish the second Casebook, highlighting the experiences and insights of various health leaders and professionals on the failure of otherwise good health policies to effect the intended changes in the health system.
