Zuellig Family Foundation Institute for Health, Empowerment, Leadership and Policy Studies (ZFFI-HELPS)

The Institute serves two of the major thrusts of ZFF’s response to reduce health inequities; firstly to influence the policy environment to make health structures and systems more equitable, and, secondly, to build the capabilities of health leaders and local health workers to establish and sustain equitable community health programs and services.

ZFFI-HELPS will also undertake a special program for youth leaders in health, designed to harness their talents and ensure long-term involvement in the resolution of health issues. Training programs for corporations interested in making contributions to the improvement of the country’s health situation will likewise be available.

One of the key steps to strengthen local health systems is to assist in the development of the inter-government as well as inter-sectoral collaborations of the different stakeholders in healthcare at the local level. The focus will be on strengthening the primary health capacities of rural health units and partners to ensure cooperation and ownership. Local health system reforms cannot be implemented unless there is broad participation among the different stakeholders. Major actors as well as appropriate leadership training interventions in the Local Health System are identified, and shared agreements among the different players in the local level are necessary to implement innovative programs that result in better outcomes for the poor.
